Sunrise Celebration

40th

With most festivals requiring a dam to be purpose built to power it and a commercial free-for-all positively encouraged, where should one go for a festival that is far removed from that- but, at the same time, positively joyous? The Sunrise Celebration could well be the answer.

Held over four days and nights, usually at the end of May each year, The Sunrise Celebration is a rootsy, down to earth festival with magical appeal. It is a Mecca for those that want to get back to nature, relax, unwind, delve into the spirituality of nature and reap the benefits of communality and harmony with others.

Green Sunrise Celebration

Strictly formed around sustainable lines, the festival is powered using renewable energy, waste is minimised and food and drinks are mostly local and organic.

Shawn of mega star billboard headliners, the music at its various stages is positively eclectic and of the highest quality too. As they say, “Enjoy an eclectic blend of dub, world, ska, electronica, dub-step, psy trance, breaks, reggae, folk, Balkan beats and all manner of stompingly good tunes from rising stars, established favourites and surprise collaborations.”

More that just music

Not bad, eh? But music is just part of it- there are performers and performances by poets, stilt walkers, flame dancers and daily discussions about sustainability, ethical living and so on. When there, stay on the huge campsites, where, as night falls the party continues with singing and dancing held around roaring camp fires.

Tips for visiting the Sunrise Celebration

Held in South Somerset between Frome and Bruton, Sunrise is basically in the middle of nowhere. It’s best to drive if you can- see directions on their website below. For a chance to get away from it all, this is as good as it gets.
